As the humanitarian situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate rapidly —with more than 1,600 people killed, more than 9,700 injured and an estimated one million people fleeing violence—World Vision Canada in partnership with the Humanitarian Coalition has launched an urgent appeal for donations to respond to the escalating humanitarian needs.

Donation Match

The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced that the Government of Canada will be matching up to $3 million in individual donations to the Humanitarian Coalition and its 12 member organizations. Donations made between September 24 and November 3 will be eligible for the match.

"Today in Lebanon, children and families are experiencing devastating violence, and their suffering should compel us to act,” says Michael Messenger, President and CEO of World Vision Canada. “This Thanksgiving, we are asking Canadians to give generously as we scale up lifesaving emergency programs that provide desperately needed aid. The Government of Canada's commitment to matching funds will help us double the impact in the face of a worsening humanitarian crisis, as we call for an end to hostilities."

World Vision on the Ground

  • World Vision Canada joined three other WV offices to fund a seven-month project in Bekaa (region in Lebanon) for Basic Assistance & Food Security, WASH and Education.
  • The on-the-ground response team is providing non-food items such as mattresses and, through its local partners, psychosocial support to affected people.
  • We are also actively distributing winter jackets and blankets to prepare for winter, which is approaching quickly.
  • The situation continues to evolve quickly and World Vision is there to support internally displaced people, especially children who suffer most during times of conflict.

“We are deeply concerned by the escalating violence in Lebanon that is continuing to put civilian lives in danger,” said Richard Morgan, Executive Director of the Humanitarian Coalition. “Many of our member organizations have been working in Lebanon for decades and are already providing life-saving essentials—including food, water, shelter, medicine, and health services. But the scale of this emergency is catastrophic. The humanitarian needs are massive. We are calling on the generosity of Canadians to support the appeal so that we can continue to reach children and families with life-saving support.”
