Cryptocurrency donation FAQs

Please note that cryptocurrency donations made through this page support World Vision’s entire mission and will not be designated to a specific campaign or location. You can be confident that your gift will be used where it is needed most.

Immediately following each donation, The Giving Block issues an automated receipt which serves as a record of your donation, but this record does not meet the criteria to be used in Canadian tax returns. World Vision Canada will subsequently and separately issue an electronic tax receipt in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines as long as the donation is accompanied with proper donor information.

Cryptocurrency donations in Canada are considered as “gifts in kind” and you should review CRA's guidance on how to report the sale and donation of your cryptocurrency. Under current CRA guidelines, any realized gains or losses upon donation of cryptocurrency are a taxable event.

Please note, the "deemed fair market value" rule may impact your donation amount for tax receipt purposes. If this rule applies to your situation, please provide us with your cryptocurrency unit cost in the Notes section of the donation widget.
