Gift of Life Insurance

Gift of Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance is a practical and affordable way to invest in World Vision Canada’s programs and have a greater impact than you may have thought possible while saving on taxes and protecting the value of your estate for your heirs.

Here are a number of ways you can give the gift of life insurance:

Name World Vision Canada as the owner and beneficiary of a new policy. When you make World Vision Canada the owner and beneficiary of a policy, you will receive charitable tax receipts for the premiums paid each year.

Name World Vision Canada as the owner and beneficiary of an existing policy. If you have a policy that has served its original purpose, you can name World Vision Canada as the owner and beneficiary. Any premium payments will qualify for a charitable tax receipt. If the policy is fully or partially paid, you will receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the policy.

Name World Vision Canada as the beneficiary of a new or existing policy and keep the ownership in your name. By naming World Vision Canada as the beneficiary of an individual or group life insurance policy your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the full amount of the insurance proceeds. However, the owner will not receive a charitable tax receipt for any premiums paid. The beneficiary can be changed at any time.

Since there are many types of life insurance policies, we suggest that you speak with a financial advisor or insurance agent to ensure that your gift aligns with your financial and philanthropic goals.

Benefit of Donating Life Insurance Policies

  • A gift of life insurance is a cost-effective opportunity for you to transform a modest annual investment in premium payments into a significant investment in World Vision Canada’s programs and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, their families and communities.
  • With a gift of life insurance, the full policy benefits will be paid directly to World Vision Canada after your lifetime.
  • Your gift to World Vision Canada will occur exactly as you intended.
  • Because life insurance passes outside the estate settlement process, your gift will not be subject to probate, management or professional fees, and will generally be paid quickly by the insurance company.
  • A gift of life insurance can produce annual tax savings or tax savings for your estate in the year of passing.
  • Unlike a bequest in your Will, a gift of life insurance is not subject to Will challenges.

Ways to leave a legacy gift

Gift in Will

Make World Vision Canada a beneficiary in your Will and your legacy will live on for generations to come.

Gift of Securities

Donate stocks, mutual funds, or other marketable securities to benefit from tax advantages.

Gift of Endowment funds

You can create an endowment fund by donating cash or assets. Endowment funds may be pooled, and individual endowments may require a minimum contribution.

When you create an endowment, your donation is invested for a minimum of 10 years and the income is used to support World Vision programs. Your endowment may be used where they are most needed. It may also go directly toward the child sponsorship program but not to a specific sponsored child. Either way, you’ll create a lasting impact on children, families and communities in need.
