World Vision Canada announced its premiere site for the annual 6K Walk for Water, which will be held at Downsview Park, Toronto, on Saturday, May 26th. Special guests include comedian and event MC Steve Geyer, singer Martina Ortiz Luis and several other live music acts.
The event celebrates the benefits clean, accessible water brings to a family and community. This summer, over 50 community groups across Canada will walk (or run) six kilometres to raise money for clean water for children and families in Mali, West Africa.
Companies, schools and churches across Canada will walk in solidarity with tens of thousands of other individuals across the globe to experience, what it is like for many families to obtain often contaminated water for drinking, cooking and cleaning.
"The Global 6K Walk for Water is about communities helping communities in a fun and tangible way," said Leo Tang, Manager, Team World Vision. "Over 844 million people around the world don't have access to water. Canadians are clearly determined to make a difference for, and symbolically walk with, the world's most vulnerable children who walk on average six kilometres for water that is often dirty or contaminated."
